Black Oak showing coppice growth form
Black Oak has the ability to coppice. The occurs when adult trees are cut and trunk buds grow out from the stump. This produces a ring of new trunks around the older, cut stump. This photo shows 3 examples of Black Oak in coppice growth form. The big trees must have cut about 150 years ago, given the size or the regrowth stems.
